December 2 – Regularly download security updates and “patches”

Today, our security tip #2 in this Christmas calendar is to download security updates and “patches” for operating systems and other software. In order to be as safe as possible online, it’s important to apply patches as soon as you can. It’s not always possible to apply patches on day one due to various reasons (for example policies that requires testing before it can be applied to production machines), but it’s important to be aware that every second you wait is a second when someone could use the information from the patch to attack your system.

A lot of malware creators rely on finding issues that have been patched and figure out how to use the vulnerability to target those who haven’t yet applied patches.
